Hey everyone, I have been waiting for this day for some time now. A couple of months to be exact. I didn't want to launch my site officially until I got a demo reel on there. But here it is! let me know what you think! Keep in mind that I am mainly a compositor, not any sort of web guru. But feel free to tell me it sucks if you think so. Looking forward to hearing from yews guys.

very impresive reel and with a good choice of music... where is the song from? congrats anyway... (do you make your environements in maya or vue 5 for example?)

Nice one Zach - i liked the shot where you pulled out of the TV and went on to reveal the huge spaceship - that was cool. Gutted you havent put more of the Firefox and Converse ad in there. Well done anyways!

The song is Eradication Instincts Defined, by Dimmu Borgir. I think they used it in the first Hellboy trailer to be honest. And as far as Environments go, I always use a mix of stock footage, and matte painting. So they are easily done in Maya.
Yeah, I love the converse and Firefox ads, but I am trying to sell myself as more of a compositor, because the only thing I have ever really animated that has any complexity is the car on the reel that skids out.

wow.... how long did that shot witht he TV then space ship take you, thats so much modeling and textuing wow. Theres no way that took you 2 weeks..right..!?

actually, yeah, it was about just under two weeks worth of work, and everything was modelled in about 3 days or so. The peice is actually unfinished to be honest. I don't think it ever will be either, but I am happy with it the way it is now enough to leave it for now. Thanks for lookin' man!

Great work!!!
Your site though..... is a bit freaky. I like the stretchyness but it doesnt tie into the design too well. Those blue things jutting in look weird as, and the borders around the images are just scary. It's very close to being a very well designed website, yet just a few things bring it way down. The text underneath, would look 10x better if it was a grey color (and without the comma)... just a little tidying and it would be perfecto.

nice one, zach! cool stuff, and everything i watched loaded up really fast, which is good!
the only super tiny minor crit i would make is to have the music fade out at the end of the reel. but that's minor, and would probably require a whole re-render, so just leave it go. just a tiny thing.
great site, though, and great reel!

Hey, thanks for the comments guys, actually, I just changed the way my site looks and redid the whole thing using one of the templates from wordpress. I don't know anything about php and don't really have the time to learn or want to learn it to be honest, but I liked it because it let me get in and change the style and colors and template and everything to make it my own. Plus it's way easier to update. Check it out if you like, it's at the same url,

And now that my portfolio is growing i'm actually thinking about redoing the design a bit to enable some gallery stuff that's a bit easier to update, and maybe a bit more automated. Funny thing is, I know absolutely nothing about html and the like, Im lucky to have even published a website period. In fact, I drank too much coffee this morning.....
