Mood board for my short film

This is an image I created using photoshop for a CG animated short film I've written called "ED".
The large image at the top is of Ed standing on the horizon of his very small planet. The lower left panel is of Ed leaning over to inspect a flower that he has encountered. The lower middle panel is of Ed walking away from the flower after he stomped on it. The final panel is of Ed walking away from the camera, and over the horizon as the sun begins to go down.
I'd love to hear what people think and if they would be interested in seeing more. -

18 Feb 2006I like it too, it's almost too good for a storyboard, it's art in itself.
I love the hazy/dreamy/blurry feel it has to it, makes you want to touch the image. Well I do at least.

18 Feb 2006Thats some great stuff ideed. I really love the design of the robot and the feeling of the shapes and of the colours of the background.
Anyway, i'm agree with Onno, don't spend too much work on it if it's a storyboard, a storyboard is a tool, not art in itself

I have a full black and white story board for the film that I don't plan to color. I picked a few key panels to paint up so that I'll have a clear idea of how I want the final film to look.
I find it's easier to work out visual style in 2d before moving to 3d. Especially if you are directing a team of artists. -

18 Feb 2006Yeah a 'mood board' is a valid tool for tweaking the style and look of an anim - and I have to say that this is looking sweet! Certainly captures my attention. Not sure what mood you are going for, but these images kinda make me feel like this is a lonely, kinda sad little guy.
btw, are you doing this as part of a team project? -
19 Feb 2006The short is about change and how we react to it. The images I've posted are of Ed as an adult, but the story starts off when Ed is a child.

Yes, it is a fairly sad and lonely tale.
Is this a team project? That's a good question. I am a director at Axis Animation, a great animation company based in Glasgow. Unfortunately until I can secure some funding for the film I won't be able to utilize the resources at Axis. All the work that has been done on "Ed" has been done in my free time.
I was wondering if anyone else on the forum has had any experience raising funding for a short film. -
19 Feb 2006Finding some funding for a short film is probably one of the hardest parts of making the thing. As you are in the UK you could approach the British Arts Council, or apply for Lotto funding. Looking at these images I can see you have a good eye for style... but these kind of organisation probably look more for concept and story idea (Though that is my own assumption, I could be very wrong here). If you have a fully developed idea then give it a go!
I really like this little guy and want to see the idea fully realised
I'm also interested as to how you go, as I too am hoping to put together a short (nothing too major as there are only a couple of us working on it)
