It was create in Photoshop and is based on 2 images that I found on istockphoto.com (house and gate). -

That's insanely cool...but it would be nice to hear a few more details about the piece.....what refs did you use? Is it all totally painted? etc etc

08 Nov 2005Thanks for the additional info. You have certainly put a lot of effort into this, and it was well worth it Great gob changing the original house, which looks like the witches house from Hanzel and Gretel, (ie, all made from candy) into somthing a lot more sinister.
As for a video tut... well, I think a lot of the work here is more down to the artists talent, as there is a lot of painting involved. But I'm sure there are many useful techniques that you used here. Besides, if it's a commercial project and you will make money from it... why not?

23 Nov 2005Excellent Stuff! That's really great Arlen, i personaly would love a DVD, sounds like an excellent idea.
I really like the atmosphere in the shot, you got the highlights just right i think, especially around the house (roof etc). Great stuff man.

23 Nov 2005Thank you. Yes, there is a tutorial DVD coming out. I signed the contract and I'm creating a small series of how to set up your system and photoshop, including how to prepare images for print with CMYK values and soft printing. Another thing I'll be discussing will be photographic resources for creating matte paintings and illustrations. I'm hoping it will be completed and ready for sale by January 15, 2006. BTW I've won 2 awards and permanent gallery recognition at CGTalk, and CG Underground. I'm really quite surprised with the success of this image, I really didn't expect it. 22 Jan 2006Yeah, the DVD is in the works. I've been busy with a couple of design jobs and of course christmas. I'm just finishing up a part of the tutorial right now and hopefully the whole thing will be completed in the next couple of weeks.
