Here's acouple of pics from a planetary zoom scene i was working on, i've decided to pick it back up again. Although the animation will be completed in Maya all the elements are just 2D pictures i created in photoshop. Enjoy!
It still all needs ALOT of work.

You painted that in photoshop? Damn thats impressive!
I love the falloff you have on all the planets.
Although, the lack of stars is a bit disconcerting and in the first picture the stars don't look quite on it.

The stars were also created in Photoshop, made them in about 15 minutes just as a backdrop.....i never really intended on using them but i'd like to use the process i used to create a decent starfield one day for that animation. Will keep you guys posted!
