04 Sep 2005Hi! Here's a reel I put together from scenes that I did for our show... I'd like to know if you guys think the music is too heavy or not.... I've been asking around, and I've been getting pretty mixed responses, so hopefully, eventually, one is gonna outweight the other!
The song was composed by my friends and I personally really like it...

That being said....I'd say the music was OK but it got a little boring after a while....since a lot of your characters are talking (or at least grunting or screaming or whatever) I'd suggesting maybe keeping the lipsync for them...or at least finding a song with lyrics or something to break the music up a bit.
Great work nonetheless! I didn't realize flash had this much potential! -

I never thought about sticking the grunts and stuff in there... i think i'll do that! thanks!
Unfortunately for me, I have next to no 3D experience... i just found out how to rig characters a month ago! which is why I need to find ideas and "mini challenges" to see if I can eventually port over my 2D knowledge to 3D... It's the future man! Seriously though, I really want to learn 3D... to keep myself employed really!

Only thing that lets it down imo is the hotmail email at the end. It just doesnt portray as much professionalism as the rest of it. Even Gmail would be better. I would suggest using your own off your own server if you have one, if not we can give you one here at simplycg.net.
That is an awesome reel. I look forward to getting up in the morning for work and watching your cartoons instead of the news.

05 Sep 2005Yeah I read an article in a newspaper once about how some companies will turn people down for consideration solely based on what company host's their email. Word has it that yahoo, hotmail or the likes can sometimes lose you a potential job!

05 Sep 2005Haha...well that's just the way the world turns man.....it doesn't have to do with the company "considering my email being more important"...it's just that some companies use that as a filter when they recieve tons of demos and reels.
I guess it's similar to companies throwing away your resume if it has spelling errors.....certainly the company doesn't hold spelling over your talents....but they can generally use that as a guide to determine if they'd want to pursue you as a potential employee.
Anyways....the article I read wasn't for CG artists...just mainly business jobs in general.
....And my email is still at yahoo....so I'm not one to get worked up over this stuff anyways hehe

It reminds me so much of cartoons and never saw such a great output from flash yet. I just loved the animations, so realistic. Great sense of weight and everything. I especially like the part where the girl is trying to keep from falling from the beam. Great work.
For the email hijack part of this thread i would have to agree with tyson on this. I bet companies just dont want someone who has a free email. ANd that makes total sense. -

thanks guys! And yeah, I never once thought about the email thing. It makes alot on sense...That's easy to fix. I changed it on my site already, and re-did it on the reel, yet to be re-rendered. I'm gonna see if I can find a bunch of gunts and screams to stick in there befor re-rendering.

OMG! That's truly excellent! Great style (really reminded me of the Hanna Barbera [sp?] classics), really well animated and you have an eye for shot composition - If you don't have a job in this field, why not?! -

yeah, it airs in Canada, on teletoon. the show is called Delilah and Julius, an original production the studio i work at created. we're doing 26 episodes, and he first 13 are on air right now!
as for having a job, yeah, i have one, but i want to see if i can have one in 3d... be it games or any other 3d production; like i said, i just want to keep myslef employed!

at least on razorback.. cant u show us a pilot? u know, we dont have canadian tv here -

haha excellent work man. I can't BELEIVE that is flash. Whether you know 3d or not, I beleive ur skillset is amazing for 2d. stop reading this post and get a job!
