Challenge 2 : Composition : Geometic studies

This is a multi themed contest were it will test your observation skills but also your skills in dealing with composition, hopefully improve it.

I myself wont be entering this but from all the bad words from cameron i decided to at least set you all going.




What is this contest about you ask?
In this contest you will be studying your shots before you actually snap the photo, looking through the view finder and thinking, am i sticking to the rule of thirds or any other technical composition? does this work as a photograph? what could i do to improve it?.

In order to study the composition you need to be focused on the subject that your photographing so i did the honours of picking it for you! (How kind of me?) I have chosen geometric shapes so use it creatively.

What could i do with geometric shapes you may ask?
Take a look around your room what do you see? You see shapes all over, the computer screen your looking at is a square, your mouse is almost a square, the room itself is a cuboidy shape. Windows are square, lightfittings might be circular. Basically use your creative side of the mind and break down objects into an abstract form rather than what you visualize them as and focus on that.

You may even choose to use these shapes creatively and frame other objects within them by using composition. Its your contest you bend the rules

What will you benefit from this?
Hopefully this will give you a better understanding of the world around you giving you a better insight into how things work. You will start to see objects in their geometric forms rather than the object you actually see and this will also benefit when modeling in 3d.

By studying the composition you will start to implement this into 3d, looking at your scenes and thinking, could this really work? Studying composition helps alot in everything .

so what do we have to do, i'm confused...

I may be mistaken, but I believe it's a contest for the photo with the best composition...ie, anything can be photographed, it's the composition that matters.

check out those links if you haven't yet, they are a great explanation of what the challenge is about. Mainly, don't go for the objects you photograph so much as the way your picture is framed, lit, arranged, ect. Cinematography is the word that best suits this challenge I believe. And Aden, I think you might have spelled your name wrong in the prizes category maybe, I could be wrong though.

yeah, so I wanted to get out and take some pics, but I haven't had the opportunity to shoot in daylight for the last few weeks. But I plan on getting out this weekend and snapping a few. At least to make the deadline.....
