Any maths involved?

rrateme95 262 posts25 Aug 2008Well im gonna start learning maxscript soon and I was wondering if you need to use maths at a complex level, e.g. I was looking at a script which had sine in it, which I used to know what it was but now i have no idea on what it is, is there lots and lots of stuff like sin cos tan or is it generally just numbers and words? -
25 Aug 2008it depends on what you want to do with it. I rarely use any complex math for my scripts right now. Generally I script to speed up my work flow and make things more efficient and they don't really require much past basic math. There are times where you will need more complex math but you can do a lot with maxscript without it. Maxscript is definitely worth learning, I use it pretty much every day now.

25 Aug 2008Basic algebra is essential. Depending on how complex you go, calculus, trigonometry and a basic understanding of physics will also help.

mahmoudnahmad 1,159 posts27 Aug 2008i don't know much about maxscript, but i use to know a guy who makes those little 3d games example the ones at miniclip.com, HE ALWAYS HAD A MATH AND PHYSICS AND CHEMISTRY books on his table while programming and flips through them from time to time. -
g3org3 355 posts29 Aug 2008I agree with Tyson about basic algebra. I also think for maxscript a good understanding of Trig will help a lot. You can learn Maxscript or any other language without a good understanding of math. Although the math will always help. I would suggest finding an old math textbook and reading it.
