Custom Passes and How to use them in post.

24 Jan 2007So I have done my first video tutorial here. It has been a while in the making, meaning I have been intending to do one for some time now, but never had the time to get it out really. So Here it is, It shows you how to load more information into your renderpasses to get multiple matte passes and or shadows out into your compositing program to use for post tricks or whatever kind of tweaking you want to do. It's done in Maya and After effects, but the principles carry over to all apps. Hope you guys enjoy it and learn something. Download after the jump.

25 Jan 2007wow, great tutorials, zach! i watched them all last night. really good info in them! and, for the record, this how we get shadow passes here at R&H, so if you're wondering if this is used often out in the effects shops, yes, it is, everyday.

25 Jan 2007Thanks man, I hoped it would be good, useful info to people. It seems that people get blown away pretty often when I talk about it. As far as compression goes, I recorded them with camtasia recorder, using the techsmith codec, and then compressed them down using sorenson squeeze.
