Arabic text running backwards

04 Aug 2008I need to place a series of words, in Arabic, in an array. When I copy the words from the original text document to the script window, the order of the letters reverses from right-to-left to left-to-right, so basically all the Arabic is being written backwards in Flash. Could anyone give me some guidance on how to deal with this issue of languages that read right-to-left (Arabic, Hebrew, etc)? Many thanks in advance.

05 Aug 2008You could probably copy all the text, let it reverse, then use the Transform tool and give it a -100% width. Just tested it and it works.
Just press Q for the Free Transform tool and reverse the horizontal width. Give it a try. -
05 Aug 2008Thanks, JayG, but when I do that the letters reverse as well as the letter order, so "dog" reversed comes out "gob" instead of "god". I also can't believe that all the AS programmers in the Middle East have to resort to this.

Is it dynamic text? You could probably paste it into photosho or something similar and load it as a graphic. But again, what a pain in the neck. =(
I scooped up some Arabic from a website and I've been playing around with it, no luck yet though.
edit; if you check it on the spell checker it displays it the correct way in the spell check window....

It seems it's a common problem with Flash. There are ways you can do it with actionscripting but most people resort to using a third party app to paste into first or using a graphic. -

05 Aug 2008OK, I solved the problem basically, I guess, by not solving it
. I placed the Arabic content in an .xml file and loaded that into the .swf. Set the dynamic text fields to Arial font with Arabic text embedded. Works like a charm, but it kind of begs the question about scripting it in the Actions window or an .as script file. Thanks for your input, guys. -

you shouldve tried really simple, copy text from document, past text to software, press Cntrl+c and then press f5 then past into text frame of what ever adobe or graphic software
anyway i will release a quicky for that today i hope just to clear things. -
05 Aug 2008I appreciate it, mahmoud. A problem is that when I copy an Arabic word from the text file and paste it into Flash, either into a text field or into the Actions panel, the characters appear in reverse order from what was in the original text file.

10 Aug 2008Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, Mahmoud. Shetab Farsi Negar is !! I am definitely going to be recommending this to my clients! Also, I tremendously appreciate the .mov tute.
One thing: when I click the "Buy" button in the Shetab Farsi Negar window, I get a 404 error. I wanna get the payment out as soon as I can. Many thanks!
