Ok. I'm going to do this!
I already modelled the character. It's super simple. I'm also done with the rig... just have to envelope it now.

Looking superfine.
Looks like an advanced version of the character I was thinking of using for my entry.

Thanks everyone. I managed to get some time to work on this thing.
Pretty much, it's as simple as I could make it. I didn't really pay attention to the lighting at all, which is why this render looks kind of bleh. I promise it'll look better in the final! Anyway, I guess now I get to move on to animation!
I've also decided to try to composite this into some video footage that I have. We'll see how it goes!

Actually, I think I'm going to redo the material and just make him a solid yellow.

Neat
You gonna give him irises and pupils? Or just leave the eyes black?

Hey, thanks Tyson. I'm going to leave the eyes black
I'm going to re-do the textures and then get started on animation. Hopefully I'll be animating this weekend!

Can't wait to see what you come up with!

ok. I made the body yellow without the spots and also gave him pupils. I think it makes him look goofy. I'm not sure about the black circles around his eyes. That's there b/c of my bad texturing abilities. heh... I kind of like it, but I might try to see if I can neaten that up a bit

Hey mechis its looking alot better I must say, the pupils give it kind of a light cartoony feel to it, good job!

Just a few things cross my mind as i look at the last few images. There seem's to be too much detail in the mesh (Can't be 100% certain as no wires) but for a character like this, with a simple shape like that there should be very minimum mesh details, aside from those which make up the general shape, and the bending definitions.
Am I right in thinking that you've modelled the pupils into the eyeballs themselves? Adding pupils is a VERY quick and easy and a lot less painful if you do it with a material. And with the black pupil it is even easier to just pop in a radial gradient material and bobs your mary. If its for animation purposes, as in the eyes will be moving, the pupils dilating e.t.c, tis all included.
I'd say cut back as much as you can on the mesh without sacrificing the model shape, it'll make it tons easier to animate.

Thanks for the encouraging words.
@cam
Yep, I did model the pupils. I can see what you're saying about keeping the mesh simple, but I just finished the texturing and rigging today... so I'm not sure I want to go back and change stuff. I think I'm going to start animating and if I run into problems, I'll see if I can simplify.

Modelling the pupils is the way to go I think...so once you light the scene, the irises will catch the light a lot better if they're concave...just like the human eye.
Although, if the irises/pupils are completely black, it probably won't matter if you do a material

Hey everyone,
I've been working on a (VERY) quick pencil test, just to work out my idea. I wasn't going to post it b/c my drawing skills are terrible (hah!), but I wanted to get feedback about something.
Here's my problem-- when the ball hits the character, I want the viewer's eyes to look at the character and notice his eyes popping out. The eyes pop out from left to right, but the ball bounces from right to left. Because the ball moves more than the eyes, I'm worried that the viewer is going to focus on the ball more than on the eyes... and the ball is moving in the OPPOSITE direction from the eyes. Therefore, the viewer might miss the eyes popping out!
What do you think? Is this a problem for you when you watch it? Any possible solutions?
Here's the link:
Thanks!!!

Maybe you could have the ball come hit his head, making him fall over, and bounces off the right side of the screen, then he could come stand up with his eyes popped out/pop out and maybe have him smile, but then show his teeth to find them all broken and fallen out perhaps?

ok. I've been thinking about it and I think that if I have the ball enter from higher up and then bounce less, it won't draw the audience's eyes away from the character too much.
We'll see how it goes!

Thanks for the comments, Tyson. Much appreciated!
I'm not sure I'm going to be able to finish this by the deadline... I've got a big project coming up and some exams. I'm definitely going to finish it though. Hopefully sometime soon!
