Im trying to get this physique modifier in Max 8 to work. Does anyone know how to fix these pesky overlaps of the mesh? Please help.
Thanks

any reason you are using the physique and not the skin wrap modifier? I don't use max all the time, but If I remember correctly, you can use the skin wrap to bind to a lower res mesh, and as a result, have a better falloff value for joints so they don't crumple. Also, let's have a look at your mesh so that we know that it's not so heavy that your modifier isn't freaking out because of that.

Ok well my mesh is quite large so maybe it just wont work...I did try the skin and I just cant seem to get it to do what I want so I might have to scrap it save up money and buy Maya....thanks for the reply...

well if you have a dense mesh, and you use the skin modifier, then you can bind the high res to a lower res version, I don't remember all the ins and outs, and if your mesh is THAT dense, going to Maya isn't going to solve your problem... in fact, it might make it worse because skinning in maya isn't the most straightforward thing in the world, until you get your head wrapped around it anyways. If I am ever given a mesh that is too high poly, i'll just retopologize it. Basically i'll turn the high res mesh into a template where I can select it but not modify it, and just create the new low res mesh over the top of it, using existing points to snap to. This way, I can easily create a lower res mesh and keep the volume shape of the high res mesh, and then add resolution to it later on. Hope this makes sense man. And good luck.
