sad story with no happy ending.

31 Aug 2006So recently, as in I just got in about two hours ago, I went on a vacation to the Boundary waters with my girlfriend. I brought my camera and laptop for obvious reasons. Taking pictures and storing pictures. I was deep out in the woods and loving it. I had pictures of Moose, Beavers, Eagles, Hummingbirds, and even a somewhat blurry picture of a lynx. Even blurry I thought it was awesome because I have never see one in the wild. On the second day we were heading into the last leg of our journey, almost into Canadadadadada, when disaster happened. My girlfriend saw a leech skimming across the water right next to her hand, and flipped our canoe in the middle of the lake. The only thing I salvaged was a memory card. I lost my laptop and digital camera. Claimed by clearwater lake. So I'm pretty bummed out about it because you guys would never believe some of the cool stuff I got pictures of. But here are the highlights anyway of what I was able to salvage. Hope you enjoy them.

not all is lost, I had my laptop insured, but my camera is gone forever, into the depths of the leviathon.

ah, well, its the experience that matters most, right? so, lemme get this straight - your girlfriend say a leech in the water while you guys were IN the boat, safe. so she freaked out, FLIPPED the boat, and dumped you guys into said lake filled with leeches.
you ever seen "stand by me"? leeches...
it coulda been a lot worse, dude.
Cam - imagine bigfoot, the loch ness monster, and a duckbilled platypus all mixed together. then imagine the canadian version of it. that's a lynx.

01 Sep 2006that's a huge bummer about the laptop and camera, make her pay for it! haha, but seriously nice photos, i dont think i've ever seen a bald eagle in person before.

02 Sep 2006Yeah, I'm bummed, and still don't know how to feel about it. I know it sucks though. Upside is, I didn't drown, and saved a few good pics, and got some peace and quiet when my GF was afraid to talk to me for the next day or so.
But yeah, I am exited kinda cuz now I can get a new camera. I am looking at a pretty decent Rebel XT package that comes with a couple of tamron lenses for near and far photography. Anyone use one of those extensively? I have played around a bit but the interface felt a bit locked down on it. Is this the case or did I not have enough intimate time with it??????
