well that is some nice work but they probably had a whole team of inhouse programmers and scientists working on the plugins and particles systems to make that thing not to mention the huge render farm it would have taken to render it out. -
24 Nov 2005I saw that yesterday and it absolutely exploded my brains all over the inside of my skull.
That's simply come of the most realistic cg ANYTHING I've ever seen (not all the shots...but a couple of them).
Don't worry Franky...after I saw that I not only ate my heart, but also my hands and kidneys. I'm telling ya...that's the kinda cg that makes me go crazy!

ok so the fire's not the bset but that fluid is omg inredible. simulated air bubbles!?! HOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i must get a hold of this program. -

I loved then simulation of the water hitting the buildings. Those sharks were something else too!

ant- 73 posts25 Nov 2005the company i work for, the moving picture company at the moment is the only other company currently working with flowline, its being implemented with out own pipeline and other goodies. I am afraid i cant actually tell you anything, we have been warned to keep quiet, but yes its simply amazing, i'm yet to get my muddy paws on it (commercials department dont get the latest toys), hopefully wont be long, it is software of course but its not off the shelf stuff yet, i really dont know much about its future though. mpc is quite secretive even in house, so i couldn't tell you much more even if i was allowed to
the most impressive thing is that they didn't use any compositing in those underwater shots.

Flowline is doing to fluids what Massive did to crowd sims....so I can imagine it'll be well over 10 grand. -

ant- 73 posts26 Nov 2005fun isn't the word i would use for crowd simming... pain maybe? although i havn't used massive.
the cutting edge of crowd sim will be in computer games, 3d graphics will fall behind quickly i think, the problem is that crowds in computers and real life are not easy to control, realtime feedback of thousands of intelligent agents is on the horizon of videogames right now, once that is done, i think crowds could be fun,
back to fluids..
i have no idea what scanlines plans are for releaseing software, (if they do at all) i am speculating as much as anyone, i think the fact that they are a producton house not a software company may mean they go down the route of pixar with marionette, afterall why would you give everyone your best secrets. once again thats only speculation,
