Roadkill UV Tool, its a free UVW unwrap tool for Max/Maya/XSI and is a standalone app.
Takes away a lot of the pain of manually unwrapping meshes

Texporter helps you generate a wireframe texture map for your newly unwrapped meshes

You can retopologise a base mesh with this software using the mesh drawing tools (see ), other programs like , Zbrush and Mudbox offer this feature but they aint free

Sumo Paint, a free, web-based Photoshop rip-off. Of course it doesn't have nearly as many tools as Photoshop, but it's pretty damn cool for free, and, being completely web-based, you don't have to install ANYTHING, and can access it from ANY internet computer! Awesomeness! -

the only thing is when you move your layer of the frame it never comes back :S
you can crop your image by movin it around -
