hi, i'm somewhat new to after effects and all, but i can understand and pickup anything very quickly.
i'm doing a school "about me" project and i wanted to do a "hp hands" commercial type of thing where i video tape myself and my hands pull up pictures from my family, vacations, friends etc.
it doesnt seem like it would be too hard to do, but if anyone has any information on where i can find a tutorial or even if you could tell / teach me, that'd be great.
i'm usually on aim.. if its quicker to talk to me on there i'm fredsinthebox
if not, just reply to this.
thanks a million!

a lot of is 3d and there is a lot A LOT OF camera tracking
so look into how to model those things texturing and camera tracking both on After effects and 3d software
max has a good help files with it start with those, that ad is amazing also takes a lot of hard work and knowledge and i doubt its a one man project i bet a big team of animators worked on that one, look into alien3d for water and you have to learn a bit or rotoscoping and MASK SHAPE ANIMATION. maybe get into particle illusion for the fire effect, many ways to do this, hype and tyson are the most knowledgeable people i think so you may want to through them a msg.
i will get you some more info when i get to the office
good luck.
BY THE WAY WELCOME TO SIMPLY CG

i was trying to think of a way to create the book string effect.
the book is 3d
the strings are probably 2d art that is masked and tracked to the hands movement so probably creating 2 null objects to hold hand tracking data, then the book is simple masked in a thread torn away animation look, the when it gets to half way out there is a warp effect applied with some shadows showing, so i thought i analysis it for you, i hope thats the correct method of doing this.

is the "hp hands" commercial on youtube? anyone have a link?
Remember those ones where they had tons of frames that they would be moving around constantly, and they would grab random snapshots to become the picture, or the picture would become reality? I think that's relatively easy to do, but probably very tricky to organize and keep straight.
