Hey. Anyone ever had a damaged AE project file, and if so, is there any way to fix it?
My PC hung as I was about to output the shot, and I had to power down. Upon rebooting I attempt to load the project into AE and I get dialog boxes saying:
- After Effects error: file is damaged. ( 33 :: 7 ) [OK]
- After Effects warning: Unable to read project color settings. Color settings reset to factory defaults [OK]
- After Effects error: file is damaged. ( 33 :: 7 ) [OK]
After effects remains as an untitled project with nothing loaded.
Luckily not a major shot, but it does mean I've got to do all the work over again. Annoying!
Cheers, Christian

Thanks. I tried importing the project but I got a whole bunch more errors and lots of placeholders where comps & raw footage should have been. No worries, I had an AE 7 project that I opened and re did all the work. Turned out better in the end!
Nothing about that error code on Adobe's site either. A similar code offered some suggestions (like re-install AE) but every other project opens okay, so I guess that file just got proper corrupted. Never mind!
Cheers, C.

After Effects error: The file is corrupted. (After Effects 6.5 and before)
After Effects error: The file is damaged. (After Effects 7 and after)
Message interpretation:
Your project file is damaged and cannot be opened.
Possible causes:
When the file was last saved, a system anomaly damaged it. Either another process was trying to access the same disc space, your disc is physically damged or After Effects crashed at that time.
Resolution or workaround:
The only solution to recover the project or at least parts of it is to import it into another project.
another solution is:
If you are on a network, try this.
Duplicate/drag your project to your desktop. Disconnect from the network, unmount networked drives. Open the project and save as. Close the project. Reconnect/mount to the network. Open project and relink footage.
Sometimes the file links get corrupted. This has saved me several times in the past.
cheers

This may not help you too much depending on what your were doing, but...
Open AE, then open your project while holding the shift key down. If it opens, it will open with the timeline closed. In your case, it may not with the error message you are getting, but sometimes I get an error when I apply some effect that close or crashes AE. Now, you can delete the asset you last worked on and try to open the comp.
