(WIP) - Mom with tongue out - COMPLETE

12 Oct 2005This is a WIP of a Photoshop work I am currently doing, it shows my mum posing for a photo with her tongue out. Her skin has a enlarged pores, so I am going to use the same style I drew Nepali in, to emphasize that.
I'll be posting more updates on this one.

12 Oct 2005hey maria i would just like to know a few things a lot of artists out there like to u use clearly defined strokes and then smudge it forming a base after which they go at the smaller details like bores to give it more definition but the rather eratic strokes u make in ur wips seems a bit weird in comparison. could u explain how u go about adding shading ? . my second question was what inspired you to make this lol.

20 Oct 2005An update on the WIP picture, I have added detail to the top of her head, and the colour behind the glasses.
I noticed one thing I should've changed in the very beginning - putting the glasses on a new layer altogether.

27 Oct 2005This a Skin Refinement layer crop of the nose at 100%.For this picture, I decided to draw on separate layers, the main colour, and shading and blending work - Nepali was done on about three layers, bg, body, hat. Boy was it inconvenient, as I now see.

I have no clue how much this took me, although judging from the date this thread was started, I lazied off more than I drew.

You have a really nice style there - the brushstrokes you use really help to bring out the specular highlights. Great detail around the eyes.
Some small crits for this particular image is that there is a dark halo around the tounge (in fact, it looks like it goes round the whole face) which makes it look like it has been cut out of some thing. Shouldn't be a major problem to fix.
One crit for future paintings... have a look at adding some blues and greens to the skin tone. Right now it looks ok - but you'll be surprised as to how effective a blue shadow or a slight green to a skin tone is. When I was at school I remember looking at some of the 'old masters' paintings and realised they were probably on to something
