This has similar shader networks to that of Afterburn but it's completely set up in maya from scratch!
It's an awesome setup at it's basic level but has amazing potential for dynamic effects.

Let me get this straight....it's "Afterburn" for Maya?
I'm assuming it's not the same "afterburn" as the plugin made by afterfx for max though...am I right?

23 Jun 2005It's not afterburn for maya at all.
It's just a series of nodes, ramps, shaders etc.. completely created in maya which achieves similar results to max's afterburn. In Maya there's nothing set up naturally for easy creation/control of volumetrics. This script simply brings together what Maya naturally offers with fluid effects, particles and shaders.
It uses a combination of maya fluids and particles which means you can utilize the complex dynamic properties of maya fluids. Maya fluids has an interesting approach. It has several key componants such as density, fuel, temperature and velocity. This allows you to create gasious and fluidic motions real to life. The fluids can naturally behave as if they are in the air, made up of a type of gas etc. It also allows for easy mixing of fluids/gases with differant densities. Other than the level of interactivity it can also interact with other particles and fields (wind, gravity etc.) and geometry.
My apologies for the rather large answer and what seems like a plug for maya fluids. lol!

23 Jun 2005Hehe, I think the link was all the plug Maya needs. It looks like a great thing, this Afterburn. I especially liked the Ice simulation.
Todd, does Maya have interparticle collision detection as a built-in standard? -

Yeah maya does have interparticle collision detection as a standard. It's not turned on by default though.
