30 Sep 2006Dude, that is a great resource! I havent found that one at all yet. Here's one of my favorites though for more mograph type of stuff, but still relevant.

I've been watching a few of the tutorials on the site i posted, and I sorta disagree with some of the stuff he's doing. It's still pretty good stuff, but some thing bother me. Such as...
in the Deinterlacing video, he uses directional blur TWICE. His footage does look nice at the end, don't get me wrong, but i just think his technique literally throws away half the frame information and then blurs it to fill in the gaps. not the ideal deinterlacing to me.
watched his old film technique since the main short movie my website is all about is an old silent movie. instantly, the guys brings in scanned 8mm footage. yes, this is ideal, but i'm more interested in it being made from scratch, like i did. Granted, they give the 8mm footage away free in their resources section, but still. if you're a professional, you're going to be in a situation at some point where you don't have elements and have to still get the job done.
but still some good stuff, worth watching if you're into AE. and thanks zach for all those! i'll be going through them this afternoon! -
30 Sep 2006Yeah, the funny thing is that once you've been through them, you see them used in broadcast stuff EVERYWHERE! In fact, I was on a business trip recently and the company that we visited had their curent package playing on a tv in the lobby, and there were like ten effects from those tutorials, and i'm talking like copy and paste settings. It was just kind of a funny moment for me, to be sitting there and being like, "hey, i've done that tutorial!" and then feeling cheap and dirty knowing that somebody knows the same secrets I know making them not secrets anymore.
And as far as the stuff you posted, there are a bunch of little things in there that I have noticed as well that don't sit right, I'll point em out later, cuz I gotta get back to work right now, but it's mostly the same kind of stuff you pointed out. But overall, a great resource in general. I don't know if you've ever been over to but there are a few gems buried in a sea of "you need this plugin" kind of things.

04 Oct 2006That deinterlacing tutorial is great.
There has been so many times where a job Ive worked on has borked fields and Ive been unable to remove them. Either because of not having the 24fps project, or just live action that was edited after each scene had pulldown insertion.
When showing them on TV its ok but a web video with interlacing just looks terrible. The only solution Ive used until now was removing either the upper field, or lower field, then showing the video at half res. Not anymore!!
