Maya Fluids - yay or nay?

mitm2002 68 posts17 Mar 2008How does everyone feel about Maya fluids? Is it possible yet to get realistic, fast moving water? -
17 Mar 2008I've never used them, however I've heard that they are very good. I'd suggest messing around with some of the examples (Fluid Effects > Get Fluid Example...), like the storm one.
I'll tell you this though, I have an instructor who used them (along with other software too like realflow and lightwave stuff though) on a couple of films (The Guardian, Pirates of Caribbean: AWE, Fantastic 4). I'm not sure to what extent nor do I have any insight into his process so take it for what its worth

18 Mar 2008i've only worked with glu3d, but i'll give maya fluids a shot when i get a chance. if ye were wondering though, glu3d i thought was excellent and very easy to use.

14 Jul 2008Well, believe it or not, There is a new solution to o doing fluids in Maya. Now it can be done with NCLOTH. Super rad, I used it the other day for a project and although slow, (since when is simming anything fast) it will give you better than good results. If you're using maya 2008, take a look in the visor, and you'll see what I mean.
