Is there any way to implement any kind of chat channel to the site? Something a little more direct and faster than making a post. Also if you have a question or comment for a specific person and you see that they're online, it'd be cool. Has this ever been discussed before?

that'd be neat. i don't know how to incorporate MSN and AIM into the message thing we use at work, so having something built into the site would be cool.
one drawback, however, might be archiving. I like that everything we talk about is "recorded" in a post, cuz i usually come back looking for stuff.
but maybe if anything super cool was discussed in the chat, one of us could make an official post of it.
i like the idea.

Yeah, I was thinking it'd be more for just really informal "hey hype, how's it going today?" type stuff. We could have a seperate "Freakin sweet Chat Quotes" thread, for any hilarious stuff zach comes up with.

I'll look into hooking one up.
There are a few things I want to finish off with the challenge system first and when thats done i'll get right on it.
I've always been skeptical about these kind of chat systems though, they do take some sort of edge away from the forum life but I spose it'd be no different than talking on msn or whatever. Sooooo we'll do it and see how it turns out.
If it works out fantastico like, i'll set up another forum for super cool information and give out some chat moderators based on who is most commonly there and who gives the most money and they can turn the quotes into super awesome learning facts for the new forum, maybe also incorporate Master Blaster's Important thread system into it.

if its a ton of work coding it and all that, it's probably not neccessary. i mean, we kinda use the general discussion area as a chat board anyway.

Nah should be cool.
Also, just having people here if to talk to if you have a problem and crazy tight deadline would be a great timesaver.

...or are sitting here bored, staying late, waiting for the company to buy dinner, waiting for a render, while everyone around you has gone home because THEY don't have trailer shots due tomorrow...

I think we're at a point where something like that may work. Almost always when I'm online I see some other people online as well, so if people enjoyed participating in a chat it probably wouldn't be empty.

what about an irc room? although irc is a bit complicated for the average person I figure since we're all computer nerds here most users could figure it out. you can also use java to put the irc chat right on the site so you can connect from here or from MIRC or whatever client you like to use.

Team Speak is pretty good, it holds multiple rooms you can make and jump about in, and see whos in each room. Though still all on a private server so SimplyCG outsiders cant just come in ect. Its pretty good, alot of Gamers use it.

aye teamspeak would be pretty rad, 'cept it loves to eat up bandwidth and cpu on servers.

Just something simple where you can communicate, Didnt have too much time this arvo so theres nothing like private messaging or whatever.
Let me know how it goes.

Any chance on getting a seperate static button up top for this? Maybe one for the challenge section as well?

Mhh, maybe put some "Click here text" for the blind people like me who didn't notice that untill actually reading this thread lol.
Or simply "Click to enter CG chat" whatever, just an opinion.
-

Haha that's not actually a half-bad idea....I can imagine that some people might interpret the "Cg Chat" on the frontpage as just referring to the chat that goes on within the actual forums....so they would never think to click the button....

That was exactly my thoughts, I didn't even suspect a thing. Same with the CG Challenges.
