what a strange concept. i'm sure they ban it thinking they're protecting their citizens, or keeping what they're exposed to under control, thus controlling the people themselves, when it's exactly that sort of behavior that incites citizens to lose control.

18 Sep 2006I've had a couple of websites censored here in Thailand... not many thankfully (and those that were weird ones... like a link to one of Yakin's flash anims!), but it's very annoying!
Out here they are not allowed to show people smoking on TV... you can see the cigarette... but when it's put to the lips you get the mosaic effect covering it. Weird huh? -
19 Sep 2006It's not only YouTube. We've got pornography blocked too, Flikr, Hi5 (popular among high school people)...Not to mention torrent sites, cracking and hacking.
The message you get when you visit a blocked site :
"We apologize the site you are attempting to visit has been blocked due to its content being inconsistent with the religious, cultural, political and moral values of the United Arab Emirates. "
Let's all switch to Google Video!
