New camera, woohoo!

also, there's some utilities you can get off the canon site regarding controlling the camera via laptop which I've heard can be incredibly helpful.

ps: use .raw extension whenever possible, dunno how much you know about cameras but .raw stores multiple exposures in a single file so you can create HDR images afterwards in packages like photoshop. -

raw is the way to go indeed, but you need room for it (10mb a picture)
jay, we now have the same camera, but yours has the american name to it, mine is the 40D (sounds a lot more french indeed)
get loads of pics done! and maybe we could organise a little photo challenge sometime again -

have a lot of fun with it and raw is the way
because its 10 bit per channel of color so you can reaaaally stretch your post effects and cleanings. its awsum...

29 Dec 2008Cool, I'll switch to RAW from now on, I've got plenty of room! =)
I really have NO idea what I'm doing so I'm pretty much starting from rock bottom in regards to taking photos and editing them. I know basic composition that's about it so I'm totally stoked to learn. -

30 Dec 2008I shot with that camera for like a year and a half, it's a great camera to get started with, fully featured and it has a host of lenses that are fairly cheap for it. Raw is great but if you want to save space you can just do some test shots and get your exposure right and you've got plenty of flexibility from there in post. Canon also has some great videos that explain the modes and functions on their site. Happy shooting man!
