im talking about xp since vista is slow in every ways.32 or 64 doesnt matter.
first of all you can use 4gig or more ram. (which is very important if you run mudbox zbrush...ect.)
the cpu has more bandwith and can do more calculations per cycle.
not every program is 64 bit but 32 bit software runs with no problems on 64 bit hardware. (with 64 bit OS)
In most cases even a little bit faster then on a 32 bit system.
And a practical story. That i encountered.
As i was rendering my senior project i rendered at home on my pc a quad core from intel the q6600 which has a very good price/performance value.
After i moved to the labs of my univercity i used the 32 bit version because they were preinstalled.
I couldnt get 1 single frame out of the machines (which were macs with 4 core xeon processors on it) not even a half frame because it always crashed and said it hat no memory for the g buffer, or smt similar i cant 100% recall now.
I tryed everything i could but nothing helped. until i installed the 64 bit versions on top and used them to render and it was a success. They rendered 73 hours straight without crashing once.
(and yeah the macs had windows on them so max users could render their stuff (ok i helped a bit

)
