Our first official (with prizes) animation challenge here at simplycg will be based on the theme "movie parody", as decided by the people who voted in the other poll thread.
So....without being too formal or boring, here are the guidelines:
-You may choose ANY sound clip from ANY movie that is under 20 seconds (600 frames) to use as your audio track
-You must create an animation that parodies the intent of the original clip (see below for details/explanation)
-You may use a character rig that you've already made (ie, for those of us who participated in the other sessions of the progressive challenge), OR you may use a pre-existing rig (ie, lowman, blue man, packageman etc etc). In other words, ANYONE may enter.
So....what do I mean by "parodies the intent of the original clip?"....
par?o?dy ( P ) Pronunciation Key (pr-d)
n. pl. par?o?dies
A literary or artistic work that imitates the characteristic style of an author or a work for comic effect or ridicule.
That's basically what we want to do here. Your goal is to take a sound clip from a movie, and contort it into an animation for either comic effect or ridicule. In other words, make it funny! The more recognizable your movie clip is, the funnier it will probably be once you "parody" it.
Got it? It may sound complicated or whatever....but all it comes down to is making a funny animation based on a clip from a movie. Real simple stuff (and if you have any further questions, feel free to post them in this thread!)
A couple more things:
-The current deadline in Feb. 01 2006. If people still need more time once the deadline rolls around(since it's the Christmas season and things tend to get busy) then we can re-assess it...but for now you have 1.5 months
-When you are ready to start posting, start your own thread entitled: "Movie Parody: (Your name)". So, for example...my thread would be called:
Movie Parody: Tyson
Still with me? Last thing:
Prizes...yes! There are prizes! (none of which I'll be eligible for since I'm the one supplying them
Ok....for now, the only prize is a licensed version of DivX Pro, for all your video encoding needs
BUT....if we get enough people to enter and complete an entry (ie...around 10-ish or so I'm thinking)....I will be donating 2 animation books that I own as prizes.
Like I said though....the number of prizes available is directly proportional to the number of people that enter (since I'm having to donate the prizes myself because we don't have official sponsors or anything).
So...good luck! And post your questions in this thread if you have any
